View our library databases here.
You can search by subject/major or use one of the popular databases that include information for nearly every subject and research topic. If you get stuck or aren't sure where to start, contact the library and we can help!
At it's simplest level, a database is a collection of information that is organized and accessible. When we talk about databases in relation to libraries and college research, it usually refers to a specific set of academic material. Databases may contain:
- Scholarly academic journal articles
- Images
- Video
- eBooks
- Newspaper articles
- Statistics or data
- Or a combination of many different types of material
Some databases are full-text, meaning you can find and read the actual article or ebook. However, some library databases are abstract-only, which means that they only include a short preview of the material, and you will need to find the full text elsewhere.
We can help you locate the full text you need in another database or request it through Interlibrary Loan (for FREE). Contact us if you need more help locating what you need! Check out the linked FAQ at the bottom if you keep finding abstracts and need help getting to full text.
You can search in databases in multiple ways.
- Look for known items by title or author
- Search by keywords
- Some databases also allow you to browse so you can see what they have before you commit to your topic.
While databases may look different, most of them function in more or less the same ways. Many databases have limiters so you can narrow your search to what you actually need - by date, if full text is available, or if the article is peer-reviewed.
The librarians are here to help you navigate the databases, so let us know if you ever get confused or stuck.
